Getting Started (ChatGPT)

On ChatGPT, ThAD is a Custom GPT — a place you open and work inside. Every ThAD conversation starts by opening the ThAD GPT.

You need a ThAD account first

ThAD only works for registered ThAD users. You can open the GPT, but it can't reach your archive until you've signed up and sign in. If you're not set up yet, start here: Sign up for ThAD.

What you need

  • A ChatGPT account. Free or Plus both work; Plus is recommended for the smoothest Custom GPT experience.
  • A ThAD account (see above) — required before ThAD can see your documents.

Opening ThAD

  1. Go to the ThAD Custom GPT: The Author's Doppelganger (ThAD) (opens in a new tab). You can also search the ChatGPT store for "The Author's Doppelganger."
  2. The first time, ThAD asks you to sign in. This is a quick, secure step that connects ChatGPT to your personal ThAD archive — do it once and ThAD remembers you.
  3. After that, ThAD appears in your ChatGPT sidebar under GPTs, so you can return to it anytime.
  4. Start a chat from inside ThAD and just ask — for example, "How many sermons have I preached on the prodigal son?"

Start your work inside ThAD

Because ThAD is a Custom GPT, it only has access to your archive when you're in the ThAD GPT. A normal ChatGPT chat won't know your documents — always begin from the ThAD GPT (it's in your sidebar after the first visit).

Your first few minutes

Not sure where to begin? Try one of these:

  • "Give me my Sunday briefing."
  • "Find my sermons about hope during difficult times."
  • "What themes come up most in my preaching?"

From here, the rest of this guide applies to you exactly as written — head to Searching Your Archive or Sermon Briefings.
